3 Things a Startup Founder Should Do Every Day
They don’t teach this at business schools.
One thing they don’t teach you in business school: what exactly is a founder’s job?
I have decades of experience in fintech and e-commerce as a serial Founder and CEO, a mentor, and an advisor. My current business, Silverbird, which I co-founded with Georgy Babilashvili, is in fintech. And before creating Silverbird, I obtained an MBA from Stanford and was the founder and CEO of three consecutive companies.
Which is to say, I know what I am talking about.
My answer to this question is three-fold.
Develop the big vision.
As the founder, you are the Chief Learning Officer, and with no board yet, you’re in charge of using instinct, knowledge of your industry, and day-to-day interactions with customers, partners, and experts to create and scale this vision.
Hire the team to execute the vision.
This is not as easy as it sounds. It’s very hard to hire a good team, engage them, and design an org structure that works based on their personalities and the task at hand.
Fundraise to finance it all.
No matter what they tell you, you can’t delegate fundraising.
